Bargaining Update: Negotiations Scheduled for Next Week

The CSUEU Bargaining Team will meet with CSU negotiators on Aug. 30 at CSU Northridge, when we expect to receive a counter proposal from management to our last proposal.

Since February we began bargaining our contract re-opener, we’ve been successful pushing the CSU to move towards our goal of salary reform and a step salary system. We need better compensation if the CSU is going to fix high vacancies and turnover that jeopardize the University mission of serving students.

The pressure must continue! There will be a Noontime rally on campus in front of the CSUN library. Special rally guests include Kipp Mueller, candidate for state Senate District 23, and Nick Schultz, candidate for state Assembly District 44.

Staff & Student Assistants Stand Stronger Together in the Fight for Pay Equity

CSUEU members and Student Assistants work side-by-side everyday and know first-hand the daily struggle to make ends meet.

A new survey from UC Berkeley Labor Center shows the hard reality of student workers in Alameda County:

60% rely on income from their university job to pay rent
77% would be financially unstable if they did not work
62% have some kind of debt

Student Assistants at the CSU struggle under similar pressures. They perform the work of union staff but without the pay or benefits.

CSU campuses shouldn’t be training ground for the next generation of minimum wage workers! Student work is real work. Student Assistants are forming a union with CSUEU members so that together we can lift CSU workers out of poverty.

We stand with Student Assistants as they fight to have a union election this fall!

CSUEU members have made it very clear to CSU management we have two demands: Bargain with us for an equitable salary structure and hold a union election so that Student Assistants can improve their lives.

Union "School" for Aspiring Stewards

This year's final two new Steward trainings are scheduled for Sept. 9 and Dec. 9 for members who are not currently stewards but who would like to develop leadership skills.

CSUEU Members participated in an event for SEIU Legislative Champions this week in Sacramento, coming together to support endorsed candidates running in the November 2023 Election.

CSUEU is hiring! Earlier this year, the membership approved adjusting the dues rate from 1% to 1.2%; the change took effect in August. The additional revenues will help us increase union resources such as Labor Representatives who advocate for members.

We are hiring experienced union activists who can organize, develop member leaders, and represent our diverse membership.
